Swim-a-Thon FAQ
June 24th
Hey Stingrays,
We’ve been getting a lot of questions about the Swim-a-Thon on Saturday, so here’s the 411.
- It will replace Saturday morning practice this week. Sign up for a slot, or just show up between 8:30-11:00 to swim as many laps as you can.
- I will be playing music and handing out snacks. It should be a fun party like atmosphere. The aim is to get the kids hyped to swim laps.
- Anyone who wants to pledge can choose an amount per lap (say $0.50 per 25 yards) and then we count the laps the swimmer completes in 20 minutes. 30 laps*$0.50 would be a donation of $15. We will accept donations up through Sunday evening to give swimmers time to complete their swims and communicate out how many laps they completed to anyone who wants to pledge. Alternatively, donors can choose to donate an amount of their choice. It’s a great way to get grandparents, aunts and uncles, family friends involved in supporting your Stingray!
- The top two fundraisers per practice time will get to pie a coach in the face during Monday’s practice!!!! The age groups are 6 & under, 7-10, and 11 & up.
- This is the first year we’re hosting a swim-a-thon, but I’m hoping it could become an annual event. The YOTA team participated in a swim-a-thon in the fall and the kids had such a great time! It reminded me of participating in the bike-a-thon fundraiser for St Jude Children’s Hospital when I was in elementary school. It was a great experience that really stuck with me, and I’d love to turn this event into a success for our community.
If you have any other questions, you can reach out to me, and I’ll be glad to answer. I hope to see everyone at the pool party Friday night and the Swim-a-Thon Saturday morning!
Yours swimmingly,
Clay
